Descripción: Can you tell what metals these flutes are made out of? This is a video response to "James Galway: 16 flute demonstration" but with this difference: these flutes are all by the same flutemaker (
burkart.com) and with the same cut of headjoint (M2 style) but in different materials.
Can you hear the differences? Do you have a favorite? Let me know. In a few weeks I will post the results. Below ...

2/4 TTT-KKK-TKTKT-KTKTK
4/4 TTTTTTT-KKKKKKK-TKTKTKTKTKTKT-KTKTKTKTKTKTK.

Descripción: Practice scales in many articulation patterns. I like Taffanel and Gaubert Daily Exercises #4. Use a metronome! When playing two slurred notes I like to say Tee-Yah so I don't rush or swallow the second note. It is important to practice quick articulations on changing notes so that you can carefully coordinate the tongue with the fingers and air. Remember that the articulation is produced by SMA...

While playing this Fantasy I imagined a conversation between two flutists from different worlds, one from the Baroque period and one from 2007, so I experimented with sound, articulation and vibrato. The recording quality isn't the best and I apologize for some microphone crackles. I am accepting new students, for information send me a message or visit

I was feeling a "jazzy" element in the piece when I played it this time so I experimented with the sound and phrasing. Tell me what you think.

Descripción: Keep the air moving through the phrase while you play to maintain good sound quality and a musical line. Be careful not to overdo the tongue motion while articulating fast. The movement is very very small. The jaw and embouchure should not be moving to produce the attack, just a tiny flutter of the tongue hitting behind the top teeth where they meet the roof of your mouth.

Flute lesson on resonating the flute for a beautiful sound.
1. put the flute lower on the chin
2. roll out
3. resonate the ENTIRE flute by angling air into the tube.
Many young players have a too tight, smile embouchure -- with the flute high on their lip and the hole almost entirely covered! Some were initially taught the coke-bottle methd of blowing straight acro...
